“Fierce Femme” was the title of Lola Frost’s Dr. Sketchy performance and life drawing model session that I attended yesterday. Her stage name reminds me of a song by Marlene Dietrich, “Ich bin die fesche Lola”. I looked up English words for “fesch”, and decided that “jaunty” says it best — a great word that I’ve had far too few occasions to use.
I continue to be blown away by the gutsy women and men who perform indie burlesque. They create a character, costumes, a story, dance moves, poses… and they do it all with conviction and attitude.
Maybe Lola could become one of my models for future copperplate etchings of burlesque women — we will chat!
After hearing this song again, I am pretty sure Marlene Dietrich wasn’t famous because of her singing.
