I sketch on location in cities and their edges. I do not draw from photographs, but out in the street. My vision creates a unique perspective in the resulting drawings.
My thoughts on drawing vs. photography: When drawing people and structures in public, one is always interacting with them, becoming part of the environment one is drawing. I am in the process of creation as well as part of the creation. To give the drawing the energy it deserves, I have to be focused, yet relaxed. I have to be truly present. I become an active observer. It’s such a gift to experience this. This humble seeing, being, and creating makes me feel more alive than almost any other activity. So while I enjoy photography, it often prevents me from experiencing the moment. Drawing is about being present.
